Uuuu... Master has already taken such good care of meeee...!
[He will open up! He will let Rui feed him because he is so overwhelmed right now with emotion that he's practically dissociating. He's relieved by this feeling of safety, that it really does seem like Rui will not treat him like his previous Master, and he's overwhelmed by the notion of "freedom" which is something he's never experienced before.]
[He knows its the goal of every Familiar. But to have a taste of it so soon ...he isn't sure what to do with it. It will take time for him to adjust to the way things are. Hopefully Rui will continue to be so kind and patient with him.]
Revenge... [Hic...sob...] I can help ...I can help ...I know many things about him no one else does ...
[After he has managed to eat about all he can, which isn't very much with his small appetite (And it is possible he felt brave enough to go and collect himself a small bowl of fruit to eat), Mayoi will regard the robes he is wearing with something of a watery frown. He will regard the patch with the emblem.]
...Master Kamishiro ...is it possible for me to...to ask you a great favor...? I would like to wear your emblem if there is one.
[mmmmm yummy yummy eat that up mmmmm delicious. Rui's expression softens as he watches Mayoi eating, content to focus on him first and then eat his own meal. It's nice, watching him come out of his shell bit by bit, and the bait of revenge is always a delicious one when so harshly wronged.
But-- the emblem, yes. He frowns vaguely as his gaze follows Mayoi's, before he reaches over to take it between his fingers.
Then he balls his hand into a fist around the emblem, nose wrinkling with distaste.]
Do you really want to wear my emblem, when you could simply wear none at all and be your own man? Is that something that would actually bring you comfort, or is it just what's done? Think on your answer while I eat, and then we'll decide.
[With a small whuff and a puff of red light through his fingers, the emblem's neatly erased into immaculate, inhumanly clean fabric, and Rui sniffs with disdain as he leans back in his chair.] It'd be safer for you without my emblem, anyway. Especially when you go into town-- and you will be going, once you're up to it. I can't grow everything I need here.
[He supposes he should have expected that answer. It's not a no, of course, but he is starting to get a proper bead on the things Rui will say when he poses certain questions.]
[Now that he's had a chance to calm down and eat, and that he feels like the ground he is walking on will not immediately crumble under his feet, he can give it some thought and give Rui an answer that isn't born out of panic and self-preservation.]
...I wonder, ah- [And he pauses here, backtracking a little.] Forgive me if this is impolite to ask, but, does ...Master Kamishiro know very much about the nature of Familiars...?
[Though, that bit about being safer without it strikes him as odd and surprising. Does he have a poor reputation in town...? He seems a bit eccentric but, surely it isn't that bad...]
I-I have no protests against errands into town, though I ...I operate better in the later hours. The sun is an unfortunate weakness of mine.
Not really. I've never had one, and never had any inclination for it.
[Then again, the way he eats doesn't really...Speak to a civilised man. Man eats like a fucking Ghibli character too, sliding eggs into his mouth and eating pancakes with his fingers. God, what an absolute spread...He can't even finish it all, though he makes a good dent in his own plate; time to put it...back.......with everything else...before he fixes Mayoi with a serene, blank stare.]
I'll see about getting you a hat, if it's the sun that ails you. Should've guessed, shouldn't I?
...But do you really need to fuss over a crest of all things? We're linked together in the most painfully intimate way already; anything else is pointless and a waste of our time, otherwise.
[Well. No, but Mayoi is far too polite to comment on his strange eating habits. For now.]
[To subject of the crest, Mayoi just smiles. One of the few true smiles he's given him thus far. One that reaches his eyes.]
...The true and proper goal of every familiar is to earn our freedom through redemption. We are dark, horrid creatures who are born in the darkness of banishment. Through a contract with a mage, we are given a chance to become something more. To be given such a chance is ...is something to be proud of, Master Kamishiro.
[He touches the fabric where his old emblem was, and he frowns a little as he looks at it.]
If ...If I could wear your crest, then ...it will remind me that I have a chance still. That I could put that wretched past behind me. I care little for what others may think of it on my sleeve, for those born in the light could have no understanding of what it truly means.
[A pause, and then he feels shy again, face turning a little read and his eyes advert down.]
I hope ...I hope that is the sort of answer you were looking for.
So it's not a necessity at all, so far as maintaining your form or the like...But it's something that will keep you stable mentally.
[He sucks his fingers in thought, mulling over the idea of someone willingly being claimed like that.
...Siiiiiigh. Big, heavy sigh.]
Fine. It's sufficient. I can't have you crumbling to dust after all I've done just to keep you here already. Hold still. [He leans over, and grabs Mayoi's robe by the collar, yanking him forward just a touch. Another few seconds of red light shining through his fingers and making his hand glow translucent, before he lets go with a grunt.
It's a simple emblem; a golden sun, within a golden circle, identical to the one on his belt. Not the most ornate or arcane, but it's his.]
...As brilliant as the gods. Now you're a Kamishiro too, I suppose. Until we wipe that emblem clean, and you pick your own.
[That is certainly a way to put it. Mayoi nods a little, and there is relief in his eyes when Rui complies, though he does so roughly. Mayoi only squeaks a little in surprise, but he does not flinch or shake like he might have before.]
[He closes his eyes for a moment as the small flash of magic lights up where the old emblem once was. When it's done, He looks down and takes the fabric between his fingers so that he may trace its every thread. He smiles again, looking up finally.]
Yes ...that is what I wish for. When the day may come that I can stand in the light all on my own.
[And then that smile broadens for just a fraction of a moment before it evens out and then...]
[And then there is a gleam in his eye.]
Master Kamishiro, since I passed my test in the kitchen, would you be open to discussing a meal schedule moving forward ...? I have already taken extensive notes, if you would like to see.
...Somebody's getting cocky, aren't they? Are you really going to tell me when to eat?
[But he's smiling still, and it's not a knife's edge.] Fine, you passed, so I can humour you. Show me those notes and pitch your schedule, and then you're going to clean up your mess from last night while I work.
[...They're both going to clean, he means, but he's going to try and make it look like he's working instead. But for now, he's just going to scoot his chair over and sweep aside all of the cutlery and crockery, before patting the space freshly cleared.] Think of this as a test for how involved you are in the revenge plot, mm? If you plan well enough, I might allow a little order into proceedings.
I would not dream of such a thing, Master Kamishiro. I am merely creating guidelines.
[So, deep deep underneath that fear and anxiety is someone who is rather cheeky.]
Very well, I hope my efforts will be satisfactory, then. Let us see...
[Since his magic is not being limited, Mayoi will flick out his wrist again, and in that cleared space there becomes a few rows of "papers". They are magic, an extension of his clipboard, and faintly glow with a bit of red and purple energy.]
Ah, so the timing is based on when we woke today, but if that is an unusual time compared to your normal waking times, then the math will allow me to do some simple substitution...
[So, listed out for Rui is of course, three meals including a tea time, and several snacking breaks. He has also already inventoried the kitchen, and with that list of supplies is two long lists of ...recipes.]
You gave me the stipulation of "No Vegetables" so here is one list of the recipes I know without vegetables and the second list is for recipes I know where I can modify them into complying with "No Vegetables." if you have any other dietary restrictions, please do not hesitate to tell me, as well as any favorites or requests. I will place little stars next to the ones you like best.
[Well. Rui did ask. Turns out Mayoi is incredibly passionate about planning!! He looks very animated as he natters away. Its very cute. Look how his ears flick this way and that while he works.]
[This little shit! This cocky little shit! Rui doesn't even bother giving the papers more than a cursory look before he slams a hand down (beside them, careful to not upset them too much) and cackles. A full-body laugh, even; head thrown back, one foot stomping on the ground, the whole shebang.]
One night! One night's sleep, and look at you! A spine of titanium! Come here--
[He's not going to wait for Mayoi to 'come here', though. Just gonna lean over and pinch one soft batty cheek, still giggling away. Then without further ado, Rui gets to his feet, shakes his damp hair out, and motions loosely at all of that hard work.]
Looks good. Have fun with that, fufufu~ I'll meet you halfway and attend these new mealtimes whenever I have half a mind to; I don't want to miss out on your cooking. But there's work to be done, so I'll leave all of that to you. After all...I can see that you're all too excited to dig your fangs into this sort of drab paperwork~ [Perhaps The downside to Rui; he's very much entitled to his new familiar's personal space, casually reaching over to ghost a hand over one fluffy ear to underline his point.]
I've never read a book so easy to understand as you are. You're a funny little man~
E-Eh?? [NO NOT THE CHEEK.] Masteeeeer, please let go of meeeeee! My spine is nothing close to titanium! It is rubber! Cracked, crumbly rubber! The sort with dry rot...!
[He will rub his face a little when (if) Rui releases him. His ear will also react and flick away from his touch. Mayoi reaches up to guard them.]
...Oh. [So, he approved? Ah, ah, this is a big thing.] Yes, I like ...to do the boring meticulous things no one else does. I-I find it very soothing! S-So thank you for hearing me out. I will do my best to begin implementing them.
[And he will account for Rui being too busy to partake, though he will not say it.]
I am not an especially mysterious person, no ...Just a wretched thing who makes too many mistakes...
[But he will flick his wrist again to banish the papers.]
Protesting against me only proves my point! You've gotten bold already, Mayoi~ Getting ready to order me about and make me march to your own beat, brazen~
[His laughter gets waved off too, however; no need to get too silly right off the bat.
Haha. Bat.
Anyway, what's so important about the window that requires him to not be walking up there already? Rui's expression goes carefully serene once more, and he raises his eyebrows at Mayoi.]
...About the window? What about the window? Do you have any idea for busywork that's more important than plucking glass from my reagents?
[He does not want to do such a thing at all! Marching to his own beat?? Scary... He is but a little bat, he does not know how to be bold.]
N-No, not at all! I-I ...I wanted to know- ah. [Mayoi will quickly start heading towards the work room, fidgeting with the stray piece of hair on his shoulder.] It was stained glass, wasn't it...? Ah, I broke something would be very difficult to replace. I wanted to know if perhaps you had a schematic of it... of the design, so that I may try and put it back together.
[It's not an easy feat to accomplish. It requires knowing the design intimately on top of having nearly all of the debris gathered up and ordered just so. It would take a lot of magic, but it is the least he can do to offer to fix the thing that he smashed.]
Do you really want to put it back together? I do have the design still sketched out somewhere, but it'll be painstaking work...Though you already know that, I suppose. Look at that determination.
[Of course he's hot on Mayoi's heels, giggling softly away. Fucking asshole. Once they get to the workroom, however, he reaches out to gently squeeze his shoulder, eyes shining and smile faintly warm.]
You didn't intend to smash it, though. So at least let me help a little. Even if it means I'm already getting soft in my old age, I can't let you go claiming penance on a whole accident, can I? Not when you're already in such good health.
[He feels awful about breaking it, but he also would like to show some gratitude, too. For Rui taking him in. It feels right. He just thinks better of saying as much since Rui seems like the sort to wave off sentiment like that.]
[The touch on his shoulder causes him to pause, and he looks back at him with soft surprise before looking away as his cheeks faintly tint. Ah, such a soft look, how can he accept such a thing.]
I certainly would not bar you from such a thing ...A-And ...if I am not able to fix it the way it once was, I can at least gather all of it up for you in a way that it may yet still be useful. It would be a shame to waste such beautiful colored glass.
Alright, I understand. It'd be a disservice to leave you feeling unsatisfied, right? No one likes owing a debt~
[Thankfully he lets go of Mayoi pretty quickly, turning his attention to one of the many bookshelves embedded in the walls. HMMMM...] ...Alright. I'll start looking for the original sketch; leave the actual open jars and whatnot to me, so that you can't go blaming yourself if something goes wrong. I know you would~ Silly little Mayoi~
Then we can reassemble it together so that no one gets too worn out. Or repurpose it, certainly...Waste not wan--
[IDEA.
He stops dead. Then throws his arms out wide with a loud, obnoxious bark of laughter.] I know how we can repurpose them! We'll use them in our revenge! Mayoi! Get to work. We'll use these to cause the most harm! I can make a silly old window any day, but broken glass, or glass dust...Fufufufufufu, we'd be fools to turn this chance down!
[It's true, so Mayoi does not correct him on that matter. He does not like to feel in debt, even if basically his entire existence hinders on such a thing. He turns so that he can survey the damage and lifts a single hand, red energy pooling around his fingers...]
Hiiieee!!
[Rui startles Mayoi so badly that he poofs right back into his bat form and then flutters gracelessly to the ground.]
E-Eh...?? Revenge?? Glass dust...?? A-Ah, yes, right away!
[Give him a second to sort himself back out again, pay no mind to the way he flip-flops around on the ground like a fish out of water.]
Good man! Good man. Now, where was it...Oh come on, get yourself together! This is the most prime opportunity to strike; he knows you're gone, and we got away with a little slap that he might take for the typical severing sting! We need to prepare, but with every hour that passes, he'll be lulled into security that we get to rip from him!
[Better scoop The Bat up before he gets stood on, though. And this way Rui can monologue directly to the audience, mania plastered on his face and chest heaving with excited breaths.]
Do you know my specialty, dear creature? Do you want to know?! I make things swell and grow in size! I make them explode!
Do you want him gone? Gone, for what he's done?! I can do it! I can shred him into tatters!
[Oh dear. Master Kamishiro is quite frightening when he is excited about something, isn't he.]
[He isn't sure how to feel right now. He does want his revenge, which is its own guilt he's had to unravel for various reasons, but to see him so gleeful about it on his behalf. Ah, and to strike at someone as high standing as his previous master, wouldn't that cause a lot of problems...?]
[There is also the glass ...he had wanted to repair it, so that it could be pretty again. Using it to destroy someone so vile instead leaves him feeling uneasy. What does he do? What does he say?]
[Maybe all of that concentrated worry in Rui's direction is the reason it's taken this long to trigger one of the traits of their bond. A bit of that anxiety flows in from Mayoi, perhaps it will be enough to snap Rui out of it for a moment so Mayoi can get a word in.]
[The anxiety bleeds into his ecstasy, stains it so that he stiffens up with unease instead of being so animated.
Huh. He's never felt like that from such a genius plan. Is it--]
...You don't like the plan?
[Stilting, though not with disapproval. Just surprise that he's feeling this at all. It's like someone's tipped water over his head (apart from himself), and he's still reeling from that sharp wave of panic.]
...You...Don't like--
Ah. It's-- from the bond? That makes sense when we're-- Yes, I see. This is inconvenient. But it's revenge for you, so it only makes sense that you enjoy it as much as I do...I don't know if I can handle such a moral restraint for science in the future, though.
[Finally he stops mumbling to himself in awe and blinks owlishly, before staring at his little familiar with a strange expression.] Mayoi. I'm not always going to take your feelings into consideration. Even if this is something that we can do, I will not expect it to hold sway over my decisions otherwise, either way. You understand?
[Oh dear. Oh dear, it bled through. For a brief second the anxiety spikes before very suddenly it is gone entirely. Mayoi is left breathing ragged, which looks kind of pathetic in his small bat form, but after a moment he will finally speak.]
P-Please forgive me, it won't happen again. I can block it out, the bond- the bond is still fresh and I didn't realize I wasn't already doing so.
[...He's gotten his attention, though, so he should at least try to clear up his intention.]
...I want. I want revenge on him, but not at the expense of another. He ...he can ruin people, Master Kamishiro, I do not want us to strike unless we are very prepared, because I do not wish to lose you in the process.
[A beat, and then quieter.]
Please ...I beg you to not take this the wrong way, he is simply a very fearsome person. I have done terrible things in his name, I know the ways he might destroy someone without ever setting foot near them.
I also ...feel that he is undeserving of your pretty glass.
Stop it. I didn't say that it was undesirable altogether. And your opinion is valuable, but it will not often sway me. But you are free, and you will give it as much or as little as you please; this is an efficient way to do so, correct?
And I didn't intend to let him live afterward to ruin either of us, but if you're truly so concerned, then so it goes. Come on then, we'll think of other ideas as we work. [Deposit Bat On Bench, Rake Hands Through Hair To Regroup.]
...Are you certain that making glass shards suddenly grow in size inside of him won't make you feel better.
[Oh, he has been deposited. He will sit there for a moment to think over his words. Ah ...so, he doesn't want to block out the bond? Tentatively, he let's go of it, and bit by bit some of that lingering worry filters back in. It isn't anything oppressive, just a small feeling in the back of ones mind of uncertainty. Is this okay? Is this safe...?]
Ah, my opinion, I have been told, is rotten and worthless, so ...I was surprised ...that you would want such a thing.
[A pause and after a moment he will return to his humanoid form. His ears flick back for a moment before they perk back up.]
I don't think that it's a poor idea. I worry of retaliation from others. He has many allies, unfortunately.
[He falls quiet for a moment, thinking on Rui's words. Putting it like that does make him consider it a bit more now that he isn't just caught off guard.]
It would, I think ...but. [And then he gets shy, suddenly.]
[Hm. Maybe he'll spare further lectures for now. Just think confident, reassuring thoughts, and nod like you're genuinely interested (because shit, he is, especially when it comes to destruction).]
Alright, fire away. Your opinion is yours, so I want to hear it.
[Is that...Is that soft enough? Encouraging? Maybe if he reaches over to pat Mayoi's hair or something.]
no subject
[He will open up! He will let Rui feed him because he is so overwhelmed right now with emotion that he's practically dissociating.

Mm...M-Master Kamishiro..! Wait..!
no subject
You understand?
no subject
I also ...feel that he is undeserving of your pretty glass.
no subject
And I didn't intend to let him live afterward to ruin either of us, but if you're truly so concerned, then so it goes. Come on then, we'll think of other ideas as we work. [Deposit Bat On Bench, Rake Hands Through Hair To Regroup.]
...Are you certain that making glass shards suddenly grow in size inside of him won't make you feel better.
no subject
Ah, my opinion, I have been told, is rotten and worthless, so ...I was surprised ...that you would want such a thing.
[A pause and after a moment he will return to his humanoid form. His ears flick back for a moment before they perk back up.]
I don't think that it's a poor idea. I worry of retaliation from others. He has many allies, unfortunately.
[He falls quiet for a moment, thinking on Rui's words. Putting it like that does make him consider it a bit more now that he isn't just caught off guard.]
It would, I think ...but. [And then he gets shy, suddenly.]
Would you care to hear one of my thoughts?
no subject
Alright, fire away. Your opinion is yours, so I want to hear it.
[Is that...Is that soft enough? Encouraging? Maybe if he reaches over to pat Mayoi's hair or something.]
Go on.
no subject
[That gives him some confidence, so he manages to finally speak up.]
There is quite a lot of it, so, if we made glass bombs out of most of it, but saved a bit of the remaining ...I would like to make something with it.
[And then he pauses for a moment, adding]
Ah, I bet one could enchant the glass dust to heat up while it expands inside of a person...
